Music Ministry

Through our music ministry, we strive to meet the needs of our parishioners by creating a beautiful, prayerful and supportive musical environment for our liturgical Masses and events. Whether it be the joy of a wedding, consolation at a funeral, or the varied Masses of the liturgical year, our ministry is there for the subtle, yet profound support and expression of prayerful intent and the beauty of God’s great gift of music.

Our ministry consists of the Adult Choir, Contemporary Choir, Funeral Choir, Hand Bell Choir, Youth Choir, Cantors, and budding musicians who lead our liturgical celebrations.

What We Do:

The Adult Choir rehearses on Thursday evenings from 6:30pm-8:00pm. The current membership consists of 10 women and men of various ages. They are the backbone of all the choirs and sing on Sundays at the 11:00am Mass the second, third and fourth Sundays from September - June, and at the 9:00am Mass the first Sunday of the month. The choir enjoys a close fellowship and support for each other. They enjoy singing favorite traditional hymns, contemporary hymns and special anthems. They are a devoted, warm and welcoming group.

The Contemporary Choir is an eclectic group of musicians of all ages that thoroughly enjoys bringing a broad range of musical styles to the liturgy. Folk, blues, gospel, contemporary Christian, traditional and even classic hymns all find their way into the choir’s repertoire, as long as they are fitted to the readings and the liturgy. Instrumentation includes guitar, piano, violin, acoustic and electric bass, drums, percussion instruments and others. The choir enjoys trying new approaches in making “a joyful noise unto the Lord!”. Rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings at 8:00pm (unless otherwise noted in the bulletin). Contemporary Choir provides music for two Masses each month, often at the 4:00pm Vigil Mass.

The Funeral Choir sings for the Funeral Masses, which are held in the mornings usually at 10:00am. The Funeral Choir currently consists of six members who meet 45 minutes before the Mass (9:15am) and prepare consoling music. Members are usually contacted three days prior to the funeral date by e-mail or phone. This very special ministry is especially meaningful to, and appreciated by, the families of the departed.

The Adult Hand Bell Choir currently consists of eight women. The choir’s plan for this Fall is to practice two Thursdays per month from 8:00pm - 9:15pm. They are planning to play one Sunday per month, including Christmas and Easter. You do not need to be able to read music in order to join! Members help each other in achieving a harmonious sound.

The Youth Choir consists of 15 members who are loaded with musical talent. They sing once per month during the school year at the 11:00am Mass. They rehearse at 10:10am just before they sing. Their repertoire is varied, including upbeat music to formal choral works. They also present a special 45-minute music program for Christmas. Several instrumental musicians who play piano and string instruments also play at various times during the year. Hand chimes have recently been added to enhance their sound.

Cantors are a very special group at the church. Individuals with a  strong singing ability who can lead others to sing are rare indeed! We currently have eight cantors. They rehearse with the Adult Choir on Thursdays from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. We are seeking new cantors to join us at rehearsals on Thursdays.
